EHS Field Technician
Our EHS Field technicians reports to the Operation Managers and performs the vast majority of our surveys, sampling and field data gathering. They are responsible for performing these duties based on the Envirotest quality standards as well as industry best practices and governmental guidelines and regulations.
Our Field technicians perform sampling in the field for items such as asbestos, lead, respirable dust, silica, mold or other contaminants. The sampling method is dependent on the types of samples the Project Manager requires. This work takes place in residential, commercial and industrial settings, you must work within these environments with no restrictions.
Examples of types of sampling or data gathering are;
- Indoor air quality sampling -This may include sampling for a number of different types of air contaminants.
- Surface Sampling – surfaces may be flooring, wall or ceiling texturing etc…
- Soil / Ground Water Sampling – This may include soil or water samples from a specific site or surrounding sites depending on the scope of the project.
All sampling is performed to EPA, OSHA and Industry analytical methods.
These samples are collected to identify contaminants and sometime to ensure that that contaminants have been removed, such as a post remediation inspection.
There are a wide variety of instruments that are used in this sample gathering and testing process. All of our Field Technicians are trained to use these instruments and must be certified by the operations manager to ensure the proper use and the users capabilities for each instrument. You will be required to use the technological equipment properly and follow all safety and operating procedures associated with each.
As a Envirotest EHS Field Technician, you are expected to record detailed notes of all your daily work as it relates to the sampling and chain of custody of your samples. Documentation is a key requirement for this role and you must demonstrate your ability to follow all Envirotest and client safety, quality and operational protocols, policies and procedures.
You may also perform other field-related duties as assigned by the Project Manager.
All field staff are required to pass a background check, drug screen and have a clean driving record and reliable transportation to travel to work sites. You must have a High-school Diploma or GED, A degree in Environmental Sciences or Studies or geology is preferred, but equivalent training and experience is acceptable.
Industrial Hygiene Technician
An Envirotest Industrial Hygiene Technician role falls under the broader career category of Occupational Health and Safety Specialists. Typically, our technicians and may be working toward becoming a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Generally, our IH technicians work with the CIH to review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. This role will also conduct inspections and support the enforcement and adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals.
This role will typically be evaluating information to determine compliance with standards – Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards. The final report must be signed off on by a CIH.
This role is expected to have the capabilities to coach, train and teach others – Identifying the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teach or instruct others through mentoring and hands on training.
A large part of this role is documenting/Recording Information – Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic forms. The normal adherence to chain of custody and proper record management is a must.
This role should also be a leader in developing objectives and strategies in establishing long rand objective and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve while promoting and influencing clients and others to engage with our professional services and Business Development Personnel.
All Industrial Hygiene Technicians are required to pass a background check, drug screen and have a clean driving record. A degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, or in a closely related biological or physical science is preferred, but equivalent training and experience is acceptable.
